Chinese New Year Festivities in Moscow

February is not only the last month of winter, but also a month of cultural exchange. For the third time, Moscow will host celebrations for Chinese New Year, while Russian traditions will travel to Beijing.

From 16 February, Moscow will celebrate the New Year once again — this time according to the lunar calendar. A varied program is planned across central venues, featuring stage shows, performances, workshops, and seasonal food experiences.

The celebrations will highlight familiar symbols of the holiday, including “fire-breathing” dances, red envelopes, Eastern rituals, and shimmering lanterns. Manezhnaya Square is set to host the core festival program, with the “Dragon Dance” show, theatrical productions, and an interactive quest titled “The Mystery of the Lunar New Year.”

A creative workshop program will include making Chinese lanterns, party poppers, dragons, and red hongbao envelopes. A themed New Year post station will also operate, offering an option to send greetings as part of the festivities.
