The Korean wave has become one of the strongest programming trends in Kazakhstan. Korean dramas are attracting growing television audiences, while K-pop continues to fuel interest in Korean entertainment across streaming platforms and social media.

Korean dramas have become a regular feature on Kazakhstan’s television screens. Broadcasters including 31 Channel, Astana TV, NTK, Almaty TV and First Channel Eurasia have all aired Korean series, introducing local audiences to the genre long before streaming platforms accelerated its popularity. Emotional storytelling, strong family themes and high production values have offered viewers an attractive alternative to both Western and Russian programming. Today, Korean dramas have established themselves as an important part of Kazakhstan’s international television offering.

Streaming platforms and social media have further accelerated the Korean wave. Global K-pop stars including BTS, BLACKPINK, Stray Kids and TWICE introduced millions of young viewers to Korean entertainment, while Korean dramas continued to attract broader television audiences. Music and television now reinforce each other, expanding interest in Korean series, variety shows and other entertainment formats.

Kazakhstan has proved to be one of Central Asia’s most receptive markets for Korean programming. High smartphone penetration, active social media communities and growing interest in Asian culture have all contributed to the success of Korean content. Fan communities, K-pop festivals and dance competitions have moved the Korean wave far beyond the digital world, making it part of everyday cultural life.

For broadcasters and OTT platforms, the Korean wave is no longer simply a trend. Korean dramas have become one of the most successful international programming genres, attracting loyal audiences and creating strong acquisition opportunities for television channels and streaming services across Kazakhstan.
