This July, Chinese animation made another breakthrough on the international stage as «Into the Mortal World» premiered across cinemas in Russia. The film quickly captured the attention of family audiences and animation fans alike, thanks to its stunning visuals, rich mythology, and emotionally resonant storytelling.

An adaptation of the classic fairy tale, the film continues the ancient legend of Niu Lang and Zhi Nv through their modern-day descendants, weaving a new chapter of love, sacrifice, and destiny. At the heart of the story is a celestial being who descends into the mortal realm and is unexpectedly reunited with his long-lost sister. Their journey unfolds across fantastical landscapes, where ancient constellations shape fate and every choice carries cosmic weight.

«Into the Mortal World» stands out not only for its story but also for its artistic pedigree. Directed by Ding Zhong, a professor at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, the film reflects the skill and depth of one of China’s most accomplished animation professionals. Before entering the world of filmmaking, Ding worked as a 3D artist for Eurocom Developments Ltd., one of Europe’s leading game studios. He is a recipient of the prestigious Golden Dragon Award for Best Screenwriter and Best Director, and his work on the animated mascots of the 16th Asian Games brought him national acclaim. His contributions have been honored by the China Animation Association, which included his work in the “Collection of Excellent Works of Chinese Animation for 80 Years.”

In Russia, «Into the Mortal World» was released in over 1,500 cinemas on 17th July, an impressive rollout that demonstrated the growing appetite for high-quality international animation. Local audiences responded warmly, praising the film’s balance of fantasy and emotional depth. The release also featured carefully localized dubbing, with familiar Russian voice actors bringing the characters to life for domestic viewers.
