“Maa” Brings Indian Horror to Russian Screens

Since 27th June, Russian cinemas have welcomed “Maa”, distributed by the Moscow-based Indian Films company — the most unexpected Indian release of the year and a bold entry into the mystical horror genre. Reminiscent of cult classics like “Suspiria” and “The Conjuring”, “Maa” grips audiences from the very first scene.

Kajol, one of Indian cinema’s most acclaimed actresses, delivers a powerful performance in an unusual role — a mother fighting to save her daughter from an ancient evil. Known for iconic roles in “My Name Is Khan” and “We Are Family”, Kajol here explores a darker and more intense side of her acting range.

Kajol stars in the Shaitaan-themed film “Maa”, which mixes chilling suspense with a strong mother-daughter bond, making it more than just a horror film. With its thrilling story about courage and love, this film promises to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

Rituals, demons, mythology, and primal fear — the story of “Maa” balances between nightmare and reality. This is not a musical, and definitely not a melodrama. “Maa” is a horror film with a strong Indian soul and ever-building tension.

The film is produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, and Kumar Mangat Pathak.

Russian cinemagoers now have a rare opportunity to experience a new wave of Indian cinema — intense, emotional, and culturally rich. “Maa” is currently playing in cinemas across Russia.
