Ghibli’s «Whisper of the Heart» Hit Russian Cinemas in 4K
Studio Ghibli’s beloved 1995 animated classic Whisper of the Heart returned to Russian cinemas this August in a beautifully restored 4K edition. Audiences can enjoy the film with a newly produced Russian dub or in its original Japanese language with subtitles.
Directed by Yoshifumi Kondo and written by legendary filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, Whisper of the Heart tells the story of 14-year-old Shizuku Tsukishima, a schoolgirl discovering first love while searching for her own creative path. Set in suburban Tokyo, the coming-of-age drama follows her growing relationship with aspiring violin maker Seiji Amasawa and her determination to complete her first novel.
Unlike many of Studio Ghibli’s fantasy adventures, Whisper of the Heart stands out for its realistic portrayal of teenage life, dreams and personal ambition. Its timeless story and emotional depth have made it one of the studio’s most cherished films.
The successful 4K re-release also highlights Russian audiences’ enduring affection for Japanese animation. From Studio Ghibli classics to contemporary anime films and television series, Japanese content continues to enjoy strong demand, making anime one of the most successful international programming genres in the Russian market.
