Directed by PAPARAO BIYYALA
This heart-warming 11-song musical is about how the prevailing Indian education system as well as parents put pressure on children to be competitive in their so-called “studies”, thereby leaving no time for art and culture.
At this background, Mary and Manoj, music and drama teachers think of combining music and theatre by training the children to perform “The Sound of Music” in Hyderabad, India. They encounter such difficulty with parents that they find themselves being unable to rehearse even one scene. However, there are also liberal parents who encourage Mary and Manoj to travel with the children to Goa and pursue their rehearsals without any distractions during the Christmas holidays. As they rehearse Do-re-mi, they explore Goa much like the Von Trapp family explored Salzburg.
Manoj finds that he’s falling in love with Mary but he is troubled by the presence of Albert, Mary’s ex-boyfriend. Meanwhile, a complication arises as Samyukta (playing Liesl), the only daughter of the police commissioner, who decides, in a fit of adolescent impetuosity, to elope with Rinchen Thapa (playing the postman Rolf). It seems like the entire play is going to be compromised by this misadventure, but Manoj and Mary manage to bring all the youngsters back to Hyderabad and put up the paly The Sound of Music.
