Russian streaming service Wink has acquired the online cinema Smotreshka, a platform that delivers its services through local internet providers.

The team and management of the acquired service will remain unchanged, with Smotreshka continuing to operate as an independent business under its own brand. Wink said the acquisition will strengthen its subscriber base, bringing in new, paying users with strong potential for further growth, according to Wink CEO Anton Volodkin.

The value of the transaction was not disclosed. However, Denis Kuskov, head of TelecomDaily, estimated the deal at between 3.5 and 4 billion rubles. The acquisition is not Wink’s first move in market consolidation: in 2022, the service absorbed competitor more.tv, which was owned by National Media Group.
