On 9th April, during the “Fresh Content from China” conference at the World Content Market – Moscow, Sunny Wu, Sales Manager at SMG Pictures & WingsMedia, presented two original projects: the dance film “Red Radio Over Shanghai” and the music show “Sing with Legends”.
The film “Red Radio Over Shanghai” is based on a dance production of the same name, which has been performed over 600 times in China over the past six years. At the heart of the story is Li Xia, a cryptographer working for the Chinese Communist Party’s underground radio in Japanese-occupied Shanghai during World War II. Through the language of dance and visual poetry, the film recreates the tense atmosphere of resistance, the personal drama of its characters, and key moments of the Shanghai underground struggle. The project is a bold blend of theatrical choreography and cinema, received critical acclaim in China, and was featured in the Chinese musical drama showcase at the Moscow International Film Festival.
The second project, the music show “Sing with Legends”, brings together stars from different generations of Chinese pop music. Young artists and legendary performers form duets, perform well-known hits in new arrangements, and share personal stories through music.
The presentation marked a natural continuation of SMG’s active cooperation with Russian companies. Last year, in partnership with Russian partners ViNTERA. TV and SPB TV, the Chinese television channel “Magnolia Time” was launched, with its official opening ceremony held at World Content Market – Moscow. New deals and joint projects with Russian partners are planned for 2025. SMG representatives held numerous meetings with Russian media companies and platforms at their stand within the China Pavilion.
