“High Forces”, a 2024 Chinese action film directed by Oxide Pang and produced by Andy Lau, who also stars in the lead role, premiered in Russian cinemas on 28th November 2024.
The narrative centers on Gao Haojun (Andy Lau), an international security expert grappling with mania. During a severe episode, he causes a car accident that leads to his daughter, Gao Xiaojun (Zhang Zifeng), losing her eyesight. This incident strains his family, resulting in his wife, Fu Yuan (Liu Tao), leaving him. Years later, Gao rebuilds his life and career. On the inaugural flight of Hangyu Airlines’ Airbus A380, he unexpectedly reunites with his ex-wife and daughter. The situation escalates when hijackers, led by Mike (Qu Chuxiao), seize control of the aircraft, endangering over 800 passengers. Gao must confront the hijackers to save everyone on board, with covert assistance from his daughter and ex-wife.
“High Forces” was theatrically released on October 10, 2024. In Hong Kong, the film debuted at No. 6 during its opening weekend, grossing HK$1,852,858 (approximately US$188,839) in its first four days, including previews. In its second weekend, it grossed HK$1,528,653 (around US$196,722), moving up to No. 5 at the box office.
Given the film’s international appeal and the presence of renowned actor Andy Lau, it is anticipated that “High Forces” will continue to attract audiences in Russia and contribute to the cultural exchange between Chinese and Russian cinema.
