TV business leaders from friendly countries closed deals in Moscow

On 31st May, the World Content Market – Moscow, the only TV & Digital content market in Russia, wrapped up its spring 2023 edition with an unqualified success, gathering TV business leaders from friendly countries in the event hall “InfoSpace” in the heart of Moscow.

Nowadays, Russia is focused on content acquisitions from friendly countries, including Türkiye and many countries from the Middle East and Asia. It has never been so important to build partnerships with key Russian industry players, and the World Content Market – Moscow serves as a bridge for deal-making between international sales companies and Russian & CIS buyers.

This spring, TV business leaders from China, Türkiye, India, Iran and the UAE came to Moscow to meet TV broadcasters, OTT platforms, producers and distributors from Russia. Lots of delegates representing large number of companies participated. Many important deals were concluded.

China Pavilion, India Pavilion and Iran Pavilion united many exhibiting companies. Türkiye was represented by individual stands of major TV broadcasters, production and distribution companies.

China Pavilion was organized by the State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China, State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of The People’s Republic of China and SMG. With a total area of 70 m2, located near the main entrance of the venue, China Pavilion regrouped 7 well known Chinese companies including FUTURE TV, CHINA HUACE FILM & TV, SMG PICTURES, WINGS MEDIA, HANGZHOU IX MEDIA, BEIJING FILMTAG TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT, SHENZHEN KUKAN CULTURE COMMUNICATION, YOUKU KIDS.

India Pavilion was organized by MEAI, a national level trade body serving the promotion of the media and entertainment industry of India. 14 Indian companies exhibited in the MEAI Pavilion and at the individual stands. Indian delegation comprised of well-known TV Broadcasters, producers and distributors including INDIACAST MEDIA DISTRIBUTION PVT LTD / VIACOM18, ZEE ENTERTAINMENT ENTERPRISES LIMITED, MOTION PHILM CGI, NH STUDIOZ, PHANTOM DIGITAL EFFECTS LIMITED, RAJSHRI ENTERTAINMENT, SHEMAROO ENTERTAINMENT and others.

11 Exhibitors from Türkiye exhibited at the individual stands in a high traffic area of the market. Among them leading TV Broadcasters TURKISH RADIO TELEVISION CORPORATION, ATV and KANALD and well-known content distributors including ATLAS KÜRESEL MEDYA, CALINOS ENTERTAINMENT, MISTCO, OGM UNIVERSE, RAYA GROUP DISTRIBUTION, THE MEDIAHUB, INTER MEDYA.

Iran was presented by Iran Animation Pavilion and individual exhibitors. Organized DAMAMEDIA, Iran Animation Pavilion united 6 animation companies. FARABI CINEMA FOUNDATION, the biggest body in Iranian film industry, the leading company in the field of production, international distribution and promotion of Iranian films, DEFC (Documentary, Experimental and Animation Film Center) and SOUREH CINEMA FOUNDATION, one of the oldest film companies in Iran, exhibited at the individual stands.

Russia is open to Arabic content acquisitions. ROTANA STUDIOS, the leading distributor and producer of Arabic and the proud owner of the largest Arabic movie library in the world with more than 1700 movies, exhibited at the individual stand.

500+ major Russian companies participated in the World Content Market – Moscow, including: VGTRK, CHANNEL ONE, CHANNEL ONE WORLDWIDE, CTC MEDIA, NTV BROADCASTING СOMPANY, TNT-BROADCASTING NETWORK, TV CENTER, TV CHANNEL FRIDAY, TV CHANNEL SUBBOTA, REN TV, TV3, CHANNEL 5, UTV CHANNEL, MOSCOW MEDIA, DIGITAL TELEVISION RUSSIA, TV CHANNEL DOMASHNIY, TV CHANNEL RUSSIA-KULTURA and many others.

Leading Russian OTT platforms have chosen the World Content Market – Moscow for foreign content acquisitions, including: IVI.RU, OKKO, WINK, PREMIER, KION, RUTUBE, A SERIAL, START.RU, MORE, YANDEX/KINOPOISK.

On 29th and 30th May 2023, a two-day international conference program run alongside the market.

China Pavilion held “Seeing China: Fresh Content Showcase” conference with presentation of Chinese movies, series, TV shows and animation projects. They introduced their companies and shared plans, challenges, and achievements.  They showcased 60 projects, including 38 TV dramas, 2 variety show, 3 documentaries, 13 children animation and 4 films.

Russian Animated Films Association, India Pavilion and Iran Pavilion organized the Animation Cooperation Forum “Russia – India – Iran”.  Indian and Iranian participants talked about coproduction and postproduction opportunities. Top management of Russian major animation studios (Voronezh Animation Studio, STB, KinoAtis, RIKI Group, SMF LLC) presented successful cases of international coproduction projects with India and Iran.

“Fresh Content from Türkiye” screenings session was attended by top Russian buyers. Mehmet Samsar, Ambassador of Türkiye in Russia, visited exhibitors from Türkiye and expressed his gratitude to all participants for their attendance and contribution to business development between Türkiye and Russia.Buyers closed important deals for Turkish TV series acquisition.

Iran Animation Pavilion organized “New Content from Iran. Cooperation Opportunities” conference.  Iranian companies presented projects for theatrical release and television broadcasting. Embassy of Iran held “Iran Evening” with speakers of Iran government representatives, the Union of Cinematographers of Russia and well-known Russian producers with experience of coproduction with Iran. Participants discussed important questions of cooperation and enjoyed a cup of tea with Persian desserts.

Organized by KOCCA, the “Korean Animation Night” networking party was open to all delegates at the event and provided great networking opportunities for cooperation between Russia and South Korea. Participants enjoyed an entertainment program followed by the cocktail in the Korean Cultural Center on the legendary Old Arbat Street.

During 3 days, Russian participants closed deals for content broadcasting and coproduction with partners from friendly countries.
