New York, 1958. The lights go on on the Carnegie Hall stage, where the Sextet is ready to perform. A dream come true for Renato Carosone, who arrives in America after a long and extremely successful tour around the world. Starting from here we take a look back at the life and rise to the top of the international rankings of one of the greatest authors and performers of Italian music. After graduating in piano at the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory in Naples, Renato leaves for Italian East Africa. With many difficulties he arrives in Asmara, performs in the night club of the Odeon theater and there he meets and falls in love with Lita, a prominent dancer of Venetian origins. The two then marry, forming a family with Lita’s son, Pino, whom Renato welcomes and loves as his own. Back in Italy, after the war, Renato is called to form a trio for a new club in Naples, the Shaker Club. With the Dutch guitarist Peter Van Wood and the Neapolitan drummer Gegè Di Giacomo, who soon becomes his inseparable companion, Renato forms the Trio Carosone, which immediately obtains a resounding success, re-proposing well-known songs with new arrangements and conquering the public with original and charismatic performances. Success brings long tours and lots of guest appearances in shows. But the desire to be by his family’s side and his reflections on his own art lead Renato, right at the height of his success, to retire, leaving an indelible mark on music and on people’s hearts forever.
